Welcome to the Rebel Country Traveller Archive

The Rebel Country Traveller Archive is a unique collaboration between the Cork Traveller Women’s Network and The Traveller Visibility Group. This online archive focuses on preserving and sharing the cultural heritage and stories of the Travelling community, particularly those with a connection to Cork City and County.

The archive was funded by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and supported by The Heritage Council, this project aims to ensure that the rich history, traditions, and lived experiences of Travellers in County Cork are documented and made accessible for future generations.

Through photographs, films, oral histories, documents, and other resources, the Rebel Country Traveller Archive highlights the resilience, strength, and contributions of the Traveller community in Cork. This platform stands as a tribute to their ongoing journey, celebrating their heritage and honouring their voices.

The Rebel County Traveller Archive would like to thank the following for their assistance on this project.

The Cork Public Museum, The Cork LGBT Archive, Oein DeBhairduin (Traveller Culture Collections Development Officer with the National Museum of Ireland), The Cork Folklore Project, Frameworks Films, UCC library and Jim Coughlan (Visual Media Manager, The Irish Examiner).

We would also like to express how grateful we are to all those who have donated materials to the archive.
